| How It All Started |
| What has now evolved into the Eastern Kentucky Genealogy Conference was once simply known as the Johnson County Reunion. It all started in 2002 when a group of online researches, who had crossed paths many times and had come to know, love, and respect one another, thought it would be a good idea to meet face to face. With that said, Mary Ann Merritt our grand leader and wonderful founder planned and arranged from 100's of miles away the very first Johnson County Reunion. People came from all over, and we finally put faces with the e-mail address and names we had come to know. Mary Ann provided vendors, research material, and a charity auction and we all agreed we wanted to see this area of Kentucky benefit and prosper when it came to preserving our heritage. We had such a wonderful time that we decided to do it again the next year, and once again Mary Ann took on the role of planning this wonderful and quickly growing event, she continued to provide us with this wonderful reunion, working from Michigan for 3 years straight. (Hats off to Mary Ann, more affectionately known as our group MOM) Answering the demand of the overwhelming response, in 2004 the name was changed from the Johnson County Reunion, to the Eastern Kentucky Genealogy Conference. Local volunteers got involved to lend Mary Ann a hand with all the leg work of planning such a large event and a committee was formed. We are all looking forward to working together and bringing you this very special event for MANY years to come. |
| What To Bring |
| Business Cards, with your name, email adress, and the surnames you are researching. Most of us print this up ourselves. They are great to hand out to those we are interested in contacting in the future. |
| Our Goal |
| Our goal is to make the Conference bigger and better each year and something people look forward to and plan for. Our aim is to preserve and share the rich and diverse history of Eastern Kentucky and it’s people. We want the world to know what a special place Eastern Kentucky is and what unique people it took to beat back the wilderness and carve out a place for themselves and their descendants. We appreciate your support in our efforts to do this.
On behalf of all the Planning Committee, our sincere thanks to you all. |
